Rafian Hidayat

Intern at City Space Architecture

Rafian Hidayat is an Indonesian urban planner based in Florence, focused on a practical question: what large-scale projects actually do to the people who live around them. His undergraduate thesis, completed Cum Laude at Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, examined the psychosocial impact of major sporting events on community spirit, using the Jakarta E-Prix as a case study. It looked at what a global event leaves behind in a city once the cameras leave, and who benefits from it. He carried that lens into practice, supporting the Surabaya city government’s spatial plan revision and green open space mapping, then working as an assistant valuer on land and asset appraisals for infrastructure projects, including transmission tower sites for PT. PLN across Central Java, where land value, compensation, and community impact collide. He wants to contribute to initiatives that treat cities as they are, shaped by money, events, and negotiation, not as they look in renderings.
