Born in Bologna in 1959, Alessandra Fontanesi began her personal psychoanalytic path in 2002 with Simonetta Mazzoni — an experience that shaped her transition from the visual arts to the field of psychology. For over two decades, she worked within the contemporary art scene, serving as Art Director of Studio Mascarella Arte Contemporanea (Centro Mascarella Arte Ricerca) in Bologna and teaching “Theory of Perception and Gestalt Psychology” at various Fine Arts Academies, including those of Macerata, Bologna, Frosinone, and Sassari. Her academic background in Arts Disciplines (DAMS) at the University of Bologna, where she graduated with a thesis in Psychology of Art, laid the foundation for her enduring interest in the relationship between image, perception, and the human psyche. She later pursued studies in psychology at the Salesian University Institute of Venice-Mestre (IUSVE), where she obtained a Bachelor’s in Educational Psychology in 2006 and a Master’s degree in 2009 from the Pontifical Salesian University of Rome. After qualifying for professional practice at the University of Trieste, she joined the Order of Psychologists of Emilia-Romagna (No. 6145) in the same year. Her clinical formation continued with Gestalt-oriented counselling training at the Centro Studi di Terapia della Gestalt in Milan, followed by specialisation in Analytical Psychotherapy at the Li.S.T.A. school, where she graduated in 2015 with the thesis “The Construction of Female Desire. Female Psychology, Art, and Myth.” Her work as a psychotherapist reflects a deep interest in the symbolic and archetypal language of images and in the dynamics of feminine psychology within emotional, familial, and social relationships. She conducts clinical and analytical work with adults and adolescents in her private practices in Pieve di Cento (BO) and Bologna. She is a founding member of Zolla, a social promotion association established in Bologna in 2020, and since the academic year 2021–2022, she has been teaching “Theory of Perception and Gestalt Psychology” at the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino.
