Boopsie Maran
Member and Early-career Advisor on Public Space
Boopsie is an activist at heart, she has been advocating for public spaces to be more pedestrian-friendly, more liveable, and more fun for decades. Born and raised in California to Filipino and Czech immigrant parents, she places a premium on celebrating community spirit. Across all her projects, Boopsie displays a passion for integrating youth perspectives, Indigenous knowledge and the arts into public open spaces everywhere. She is the founder of the urban strategy consultancy, Places for Good. Her job is to nurture communities in their journey to create spaces that inhabit their values. Her main focus is on adapting government policies around ownership and enhancing partnerships between cities and citizens. Everyone deserves to live in a community that has a strong sense of whanaungatanga (belonging). Boopsie is an active member of several networks that work collectively towards this goal, including the Global Advisory Board on Public Space for City Space Architecture. Boopsie is a regional leader at PlacemakingX, and in 2020, received a distinction from Auckland Transport for Superior Grassroots Action.
