Member of the Scientific Committee

Emine Köseoğlu is a professor of architecture whose work centres on architectural design, urban space, spatial perception, and everyday experience in the built environment. Her research brings together architectural phenomenology, environmental psychology, and spatial analysis to understand how individuals sense, interpret, and navigate urban settings. She is particularly interested in spatial legibility, sensory experience, and the subtle dynamics that shape human behaviour within streets, squares, interiors, and transitional urban environments. Dr. Köseoğlu has supervised numerous graduate theses and guided interdisciplinary projects on psychogeography, urban spatial perception, and film-based analyses of architectural and urban scenes. Her teaching approach blends experiential inquiry with analytical methods, encouraging students to examine and create urban context through observation, mapping, and reflective design thinking. One of her significant academic contributions stems from her doctoral research, where she developed a multi-layered framework for urban legibility. This work has received substantial attention and citations in the field, influencing contemporary discussions on how cities are read, understood, and experienced at formal, syntactical, and perceptual levels. Dr. Köseoğlu continues to publish on spatial legibility, sensory mapping, and urban experience, and she participates in national and international conferences as well as TÜBİTAK-supported research projects. Known for her clear and thoughtful academic style, she remains committed to advancing knowledge on urban space, perceptual clarity, and the experiential dimensions of the built environment.
