Lisa Marie Gala

Member and Senior Advisor on Public Space

Technical advisor to cities confronting increasingly complex revitalisation strategy challenges in creating, and moreover funding, urban redevelopment, land use planning, and thriving public/open spaces. Intentional and equitable placemaking is always a central component in design, or rebuilding, whether creating 3rd places indoors or outdoors, parklets, alley activations, or an enjoyable public space of any capacity. In founding her advisory firm, Land & Cities, to provide deliverables for catalyst projects which create and/or revitalise the vitality of places where people share and engage with public space, clients are individuals, brave grassroots groups of urban pioneers, nonprofit organisations, public & private corporations, and many Federal/State/Municipal governments alike. A majority of work has involved severely disinvested, high-crime, poor living condition neighbourhoods/corridors in both urban and rural settings throughout the United States. In addition to working & consulting in a range of major cities from Detroit, Little Rock, Indianapolis, to El Paso, there have been many pro bono engagements that champion human-centred design for the most vulnerable, forgotten populations that often do not receive attention, nor planning assistance, as part of their community economic development efforts to renovate blighted areas. As a lifelong learner, she enjoys currently serving as an Advocate for PlacemakingX, FUSE Corps Fellow 2018/19 alumna, and recently obtained a Certificate in Jay Pitter’s Honours Seminar: Inclusive Placemaking and Planning for Equitable Cities Cohort at the University of Detroit Mercy. In 2024-2025, Lisa was in the Lincoln Institute of Land and Policy’s Inaugural Vibrant Community Fellowship.
