Dr Maggie McCormick is Adjunct Professor at RMIT University in Australia and Professor at Reutlingen University in Germany. She is the recent Program Manager, Master of Arts (Art in Public Space) at RMIT School of Art and is a Core Member of the RMIT research group CAST Contemporary Art and Social Transformation. Her research focus centres on the relationship between urban consciousness and cultural conceptualisation and how this is evidenced in contemporary art practice. The research forms the basis of exhibitions, presentations and publications in Australia, Asia and Europe. Her doctoral thesis, ‘The Transient City: Mapping urban consciousness through contemporary art practice’ 2009, investigates the changing nature of urban consciousness through a study of contemporary Chinese artistic and curatorial practice. Recent publications include Carto-City Revisited: unmapping urbaness (2017) in Elizabeth Grierson (ed.) Transformations: Art and the City, Intellect Books, Bristol, UK/Chicago, USA.
