Marium Naveed is an urban planner and researcher based in Islamabad. She holds a master’s degree in Urban Placemaking and Management from Pratt Institute, completed on a Fulbright scholarship. She currently leads the Sustainability Lab at atomcamp, where she works at the intersection of data, climate change, and cities in Pakistan.
Her work focuses on active mobility, public spaces, and community-oriented urban design. She has worked with local municipalities in Islamabad to develop the blueprint for city-wide cycling infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on community engagement. As part of a fellowship, she worked with the Van Alen Institute to develop placemaking proposals for public plazas in New York City. She also worked with the NYC Department of Transportation to study the needs of micromobility users. Her master’s thesis explored how subway stations in New York City can function as public spaces for the surrounding neighbourhoods.
Her research focuses on spatial gendered mapping and women’s experiences of the city, particularly in relation to mobility and public space. She has also examined women’s experiences in transit environments such as buses and bus stops. Alongside her research, she writes for local publications and leads discussion circles to engage wider audiences. She has taught mapping and urban design to undergraduate architecture students at NUST School of Art Design and Architecture. Her work is grounded in advancing inclusive, people-centred urban futures through research, practice, and advocacy.
