Maurice Harteveld
Volunteer for the Public Space Academy
As a registered Dutch architect, urban designer and planner, Maurice Harteveld works within the faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment at Delft University of Technology. Within this affiliation, he is specialised in the theory of urban design and the architecture of the city, with a current focus on the issue of public space and interdisciplinary thinking. The emphasis is on the reality check of established theory. His work always explicates interrelated socio-spatial transformations and cross-cultural exchange. In education, this is illuminated in a wide variety of studios, lectures and teaching-related activities. In research, it is pushed forward by his epistemological approach, philosophically departing from the Age of Modernism, while starting with what we see and have seen in practice. His findings are discussed in articles and books, and internationally displayed in public exhibitions. Maurice shares in the faculty’s responsibilities to translate research into education, and vice versa, by building on years of management experience. While developing the field of urban design and theory in Delft, valorisation also extends to many places and in many ways, including throughout Europe, North America and China.
