Dr Monika Wróbel, Eng. Arch. – architect, urban planner, and urban researcher specialising in public spaces. She is the author and editor of strategic documents guiding local government development, including the “Programme for Improving the Quality of Key Public Spaces” for the #Warszawa2030 Strategy and “Planning Reports – Let’s Make the Masterplan”. Co-author of the book “Art. Update. What Can Be Seen in the Public Space of Warsaw?” published by the Puszka Foundation. She is co-founder and vice-president of the Urban Sports Square Foundation, which supports the development of friendly, intergenerational urban recreation spaces and is an official partner of the New European Bauhaus initiative by the European Commission. Within the foundation, she co-leads participatory processes and develops design strategies for multifunctional public spaces in cooperation with cultural institutions. She conducts workshops and lectures, and actively participates in research projects as a member or leader. In 2017, she defended her PhD dissertation at the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology, focusing on the relationship between contemporary public art and urban space in Warsaw. She was awarded as a winner of the main prize for the best doctoral dissertation on Warsaw-related topics in the 3rd edition of the “Diplomas for Warsaw” competition. Between 2010 and 2016, she worked as a project manager at KAPS Architekci, designing residential complexes across Poland. As an expert, she supports the Warsaw City Office for Architecture and Spatial Planning in projects related to the development of public spaces in the capital. She is also a member of the Municipal Urban and Architectural Commission in Warsaw and the Advisory Board of City Space Architecture, an international association of public space researchers and practitioners.
