Sally Hamarneh
Executive Council Board Member
Dr Sally Hamarneh is an Assistant Professor at the American University of Madaba and Lead Researcher at the Arab Urban Development Institute. With over 20 years of experience in interdisciplinary research, she bridges architecture, urban planning, and communication sciences to explore how public spaces function as media for social cohesion and inclusive communication. Her Ph.D. in Information and Communication Sciences from the University of Paris 8 examined the utility of public squares as indicators of social cohesion in post-digital cities. She has worked and studied across Europe, the Middle East, and the Gulf region, collaborating with research centres and municipalities on projects that link design, governance, and civic awareness. Dr. Hamarneh serves as a member of the Executive Board of City Space Architecture, where she contributes to the Public Space Academy, the Res Publica editorial series, and international workshops in Bologna and Milan. At the Arab Urban Development Institute, she leads the first Arab Urban Development Barometer, covering over 75 cities across the region. Her work promotes sustainability, inclusivity, and participatory urban governance, positioning public space as a vital platform for communication, education, and collective well-being.
