Şebnem Hoşkara is a tenured professor of Architecture and Urbanism (Urban Design) in the Department of Architecture at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU). She serves as the Director of EMU’s Urban Research and Development Center (URDC), coordinates sustainability efforts in campus planning at EMU, and is the Editor of the Journal of Urban Research and Development. Hoşkara was the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at EMU from 2010 to 2016 and worked as a visiting professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), where she acted as the interim director of the urban and regional planning graduate programs in 2018. She is a founding member of the Cyprus Network for Urban Morphology (CYNUM) and is affiliated with several professional organisations, including ISOCARP, CSA, ICOMOS TR, ISUF, and TICCIH. She serves on the Scientific Committee of ISOCARP and chairs the Senior Advisory Board on Public Space at City Space Architecture. Professor Hoşkara continues her research in architectural and urban design education, urban morphology, public space and placemaking, sustainable urban design and planning, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in architecture and urban design, urban planning, urban conservation, and the preservation of industrial heritage in Cyprus. Recently, she completed three significant urban design projects in Nicosia, Cyprus. Hoşkara has supervised ten PhD and twenty master’s theses and is currently overseeing two PhD candidates and two master’s students.
