Shradha Chandan
Member and Chair of the Early-career Advisory Board on Public Space
Dr. Shradha Chandan is an interdisciplinary urban scholar and postdoctoral researcher at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, specialising in community-driven urban conservation, public spaces, and cultural heritage transformation, with a comparative focus on South Asian and European contexts. Originally from Bhubaneswar, India, she holds a PhD in community-based conservation in pilgrim cities, with a case study on Puri, Odisha. She also serves as Chair of the Early Career Board at City Space Architecture, Bologna, fostering global dialogues on public space and inclusive urbanism. Her current research examines placemaking in heritage landscapes through participatory design, digital heritage, and storytelling, framed within the principles of the New European Bauhaus. Her work builds on her earlier experience as a DAAD PRIME 2023 Fellow, during which she explored community-led social innovation initiatives in historic European neighbourhoods. Passionate about cities, she explores how urban spaces shape stories, cultures, and forms of belonging. Her work strives to bridge research and practice to create inclusive, resilient cities shaped by diverse voices and lived experiences.
