First UN-Habitat Assembly 2019

City Space Architecture took part in the first UN-Habitat Assembly, which took place from 27 to 31 May 2019 at the UN-Habitat headquarters in Nairobi. Our president, Dr Luisa Bravo, was granted accreditation through an invitation letter signed by Ms Maimunah Mohd Sharif, the executive director of UN-Habitat. The invitation also permitted participation in the inaugural Global Stakeholders Forum and Business Leaders Dialogue, scheduled for 25–26 May.
The special theme for the Assembly was “Innovation for Better Quality of Life in Cities and Communities”, with the sub-theme “Accelerated implementation of the New Urban Agenda towards achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals”. During the first session, the Assembly established the Executive Board of UN-Habitat and elected its members to review and approve the UN-Habitat Strategic Plan 2020-2025, as well as to review the progress in implementing the New Urban Agenda adopted at the Habitat III conference in Quito (2016).
The Assembly was attended by Member States of the United Nations, as well as United Nations agencies, local authorities, non-state actors, including representatives of civil society, youth and women’s groups, the private sector and academia.
During a side event at the City Stage, which was included in the official programme of the Assembly, City Space Architecture officially announced that it had signed a Letter of Agreement with UN-Habitat for cooperation in developing The Journal of Public Space.
