This was the fifth “Past Present and Future of Public Space” conference, the first one took place in Bologna (2014), the second (2016), third (2018) and fourth conferences (2021) took place at the Venice Architecture Biennale. After 10 years, the conference is back in Bologna!
The fifth conference took place in Bologna on 25-27 June 2024, promoted by City Space Architecture in collaboration with Museo Spazio Pubblico, Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, ISOCARP – International Society of City and Regional Planners, European Prize for Urban Public Space, under the patronage of Comune di Bologna and Regione Emilia-Romagna.
PUBLIC SPACE RESEARCH AWARDS
In the closing session, City Space Architecture proudly announced the recipients of the prestigious Public Space Research Awards as part of the celebration of the tenth anniversary. The awards recognised exceptional research contributions at both Master’s and PhD levels, highlighting innovative approaches to understanding and improving public spaces, emphasising our commitment to fostering excellence in public space research.
“These awards represent our dedication to advancing the field of public space studies and supporting the next generation of urban scholars,” stated Dr. Luisa Bravo, President of City Space Architecture. “The winning research theses demonstrate remarkable insight into the evolving nature of public spaces and their crucial role in contemporary urban life.”
The selection process involved rigorous evaluation by an international jury of distinguished academics and practitioners. Submissions were assessed based on their originality, methodological sophistication, and potential impact on both academic discourse and practical applications in urban design and planning.
